Climate
Portugal enjoys a tropical climate, characterized by long, hot summers and
short and mild winters. In the north, winters are cold and humid. However, in
more southern areas, the temperature raises and the amount of rainfall decreases;
in the most southern region, the Algarve, the temperate falls rarely below zero.
The more interior areas have more continental climate with hotter summers and
colder winters than in the coastal regions. The north of Madeira is the area
with more rainfalls, in its southern area rainfalls are smaller but it is hotter.
The Azores have a mild climate with strong winds and rains falling the whole
year long. The average yearly temperature in January amounts to 10°C and
in July to 24°C.
