Interesting Places in Croatia

ZAGREB

Zagreb is one of the most interesting places in Croatia. It is the capital city of Croatia from the 16th century. Three districts of the city are of the greatest importance for tourists visiting Zagreb: Kaptol, Gradec (Gomji Grad) and Donji Grad. The first two with the slops of Medvednica behind them are picturesquely located and they constitute the Old Town with a network of many narrow cobbled alleys, with cafes decorated with flowers and the gates of small palaces decorated with special bars. In Donji Grad, which is full of green parks and gardens, the 19th century architecture prevails. Numerous museums and galleries are devoted to the art from the ancient times up to nowadays. The best atmosphere of Zagreb is to be found in the evening in Trg Bana Jelacica, surrounded by secession-style tenements with a monument of Ban in the middle. A couple of days to visit the city will be enough. It doesn’t take long to visit Zagreb, because the majority of tourist attractions are focused at the relatively small area. One day must be devoted to the Old Town, i.e. Kaptol and Gradec (Gric, Gornji Grad) and one day to Donji Grad and the most important museums. Evenings should be reserved for strolls along Trg Bana Jelacica and neighbouring alleys. Those who like mountain trekking should choose the woody ranges of Medvednica. There are the remnants of the Medieval castle Medvedgrad on its peak which can be accessed with a funicular at Sljeme (at 1035 meters).

BIOGRAD

Next interesting place in Croatia is Biograd. It is located in the middle of the Adriatic coast. Biograd is known for its rich history. RABAC

It is one of the most popular places in Istria. The biggest attraction of this place is beyond doubt the fact that at the top of a hill above Rabac, three kilometres from the sea there is an old town Labin. First colonies here were established about 4000 years ago. Rabac was a small fishermen village to the middle of the last century. In 1876 an English writer and traveller Richard Francis Burton made Rabac famous with his book „The Seaboard of Istria". The first hotel Quarnaro was built here in 1889. After some time Rabac was called “The Pearl of the Kvarner Bay”.

BASKA VODA

The history of this village dates back to the ancient times. Some remnants of the fortifications from the beginning of AD are still preserved. Moreover, St Nicola and St Lovre Church have a great historical meaning in the city.

TROGIR

It is a city located in the centre of the Dalmatian county. A small island situated between hills along the coast and the Ciovo Island is the heart of this place. The Trogir Riviera comprises twenty islands and smaller islands as well as towns like Sege, Marina and Okrug. Due to its unique architecture, Trogir, which is situated on a small island, looks like a castle on the water. The cathedral from the 18th century is the most popular monument here. Architecture as a whole, which is an example of the stone craftsmanship, is more fascinating than particular buildings.
