Climate
Croatia has a temperate climate, particularly in its continental part, although temperatures here are a couple of degrees higher than in Poland.
On the coast the whether is different. The climate here is Mediterranean which is mild and warm. In summer the highest temperature averages around 30 °C and the lowest temperature around 20 °C. In winter the temperature rarely falls below 0 °C and there is rather no snow. The weather in summer can change rapidly; rainfalls are usually short and heavy. During the period from May to October a long-term change in weather does not occur. A great advantage is the fact that there isn’t much difference between temperatures during a day and a night. Relatively often occurring gusty winds are also characteristic for the Croatian coast. The wind coming from the land is called bora wind, it is a kind of a foehn wind, which falls down from the mountains and is dry and cold as for the Mediterranean cost (but is warm as for mountainous wind). When bora blows, the air is fresh, the sky is clear and there are no rainfalls. When the second type of the southern wind blows, the air is very humid and hot for a change. The period between June and September is the most popular period for tourists to visit Croatia. It doesn’t happen that the weather is bad, but on the other hand we have to be aware of the inconvenient heat and of the crowds of tourists. That is why, for those who prefer peace and quiet to bustle and noise and a pleasant rest and for those who choose Croatia for curative reasons, the best time to visit Croatia will be May and October. The sun is not strong, but it is warm all the time and the sea water is also warm. All the months during winter are wet and windy, but normally the air temperature does not fall below 0°C. Nevertheless, these specific conditions occur only on the coast. If we leave the sea and go in one possible direction towards the mountains, snow and frost will be typical there. The difference in temperature between several dozen of kilometres may reach even a couple of degrees.
