Climate
Bulgaria is located on the border between two climatic zones. The major part lies in the temperate climate zone. Subtropical continental climate is only to be found in the south and on the coast. In winter it is definitely colder in the north than in the south. In spring the climate becomes more continental. North of the Balkan Mountains (Stara Planina), mainly along the Danube River, the summer is hot and humid. In southern Bulgaria the climate is like the Mediterranean climate. The autumn in Bulgaria is very pleasant, although it may rain heavily. The climate favours agriculture as well as summer and winter tourism.
